DEVO, QEE-VO

I just realised that I haven't introduced you to Qee-vo yet. So, without further ado - here he is!

In Booji Boy mode:

In Mark Mothersbaugh mode:

Now, I'd like to see some Kraftwerk Qees. Preferrably a series of four, two of them with exchangeable heads - allowing you to switch from simulating the classic Kraftwerk line-up to the current one, by just replacing the factory mounted Karl Bartos and Wolfgang Flür heads with the heads of Fritz Hilpert and Henning Schmidt (sold separately).

More about the Qee-vo here.

Hot Chip to remix Kraftwerk

Electronic party band Hot Chip has remixed the two Kraftwerk tracks "Aerodynamik" and "La Forme" for release in September, according to several official EMI websites.

The four Hot Chip members have divided the heavy work load between themselves. "Aerodynamik (Intelligent Design Mix)" was created by Alex Taylor and Joe Goddard, while Al Doyle and Felix Martin did the King of the Mountains Mix version of "La Forme". The remixes will be available as 12", cd and as digital download.

But what do we think about this, then? Well, cant say that I've heard it yet but I am not completely sold on the idea... I mean, it's been almost three years since "Aerodynamik" and "La Forme" were first released, on the "Tour De France Soundtracks" album. So, really, why now?

On the up side, however, we have this:

Early this spring, DFA Records presented a 12" by Booji Boy High. Obviously some kind of DEVO tribute band, BBH actually consisted of Alex Taylor and Joe Goddard from Hot Chip, disguised as Georgios Panayiotou and Mother Markzbow. Now, that was an interesting idea. And most likely nu rave. Listen here.

The Conny Plank

Konrad “Conny” Plank , producer to the stars, died of cancer in 1987 as one of the worlds most important music producers. His technological savvy and his sensitive ear helped creating krautrock, and cast the foundation for the modern electronic scene.

When Plank is mentioned these days, it is most often in connection to the early Kraftwerk albums. But plenty of other german prog/kraut/psych celebrities has visited his studio to record: Neu!, Cluster, Guru Guru. And we definitely can't forget his work with Dieter Moebius or Brian Eno (or Devo, Ultravox, Eurythmics, …), and we absolutely must not forget DAF and their Plank produced albums “Gold und liebe” and “Alles ist gut”.
During the seventies, Conny built his own studio in Cologne. The studio has up until recently been run by Conny's widow, Krista. Recent rumors tell us that the studio is now beind closed down, and that the entire thing might be for sale. If this is true: buy it!

And by the way, if you for some reason would stumble upon the 1981 album "Biomutanten" by Les Vampyrettes, a collaboration between Plank and Holger Czukay of Can, but that as well.
